Well Lake Texoma Spring Fishing has really heated up the last few weeks! The water temperatures have warmed and the Striper action has been hot! The artificial lure bite has been fantastic and will continue to be good well into summer. With the warmer water temperatures Striper have moved up into the upper layer of the water column and can be found actively feeding in 2 to 30 feet of water. The early morning topwater bite picked up good a few days ago and is the most exciting way to catch Striper! Seeing that Striper bust the water and attack that lure is mesmerizing! Cast right up on the waters edge with a pencil popper or large chug bug. Rocky shorelines and points with adjacent deep water are holding early morning Striper.

Once the sun gets up the fish will move off of the shallow structure and hold on points and ledges in 10 to 25 feet of water. A 1 ounce or ¾ ounce jig head with a sassy shad style body will get them biting. Try different depths and reeling speeds until you figure out the right combination. Wind blown areas will give an added advantage as baitfish will blow into the rocky areas. Don’t be afraid to cast shallow on those rocks as well, you never know when that 10 pounder will be sitting in 3 feet of water!

The birds will help out this time of year as well! Look for small and large white egrets on the shoreline for a shallow water bite early in the mornings. The Blue Herons and seagulls will help you locate fish in deep water as well. Just run your swimbait right above the top of the school and hang on!

May and June are great months on Lake Texoma! The lake is in great shape and the fish are healthy! Pick up the phone and call your favorite guide, or call and get cabin, or come up and stay the weekend at on of numerous lake side parks. Beautiful Lake Texoma will be waiting, so come on out!
