The summer fishing on Lake Texoma has really been amazing. We have had some days where our fish were a little on the small side, but still keepers. We have also had some days where we’ve caught some really nice big fish and some really nice big fat box fish as well. We’re very fortunate that we have a lot of bait in the lake right now and these fish have no problem eating and putting on weight even in the dog days of August. We’ve also been very fortunate that it has been a very cool August and the water temps have not been on the hot side and the fish have been very very happy about it. The long range forecast shows a below normal temperature average for September so I anticipate that the good fishing will continue through the end of summer and into the fall.
As we get into October and we get more cool fronts and the water cools off it’s going to be amazing! Bigger fish will be moving shallow and gorging themselves on big gizzard shad in preparation for this winter and the spring spawn. It’s hard to believe just two years ago we were devastated by the big flood and this lake has naturally recovered as well as it has with no assistance. The bait has thrived, we’ve had great spawns each spring, and the big fish that survived the flood are getting bigger by the day due to the amount of bait in the lake.
If you’ve been thinking about coming out and catching some striper, take advantage of some cooler weather this fall and winter and come fish during my favorite time of the year when there’s a lot less traffic on the lake and a lot more options for fishing and catching your fish of a lifetime!
Don’t forget there are really great cabins available for rent right out of my marina. Come and stay the night before or after we fish for a nice relaxing day and a half on Lake Texoma.
